Welcome to Colleen Cooks It, We Are So Happy You Made It!!!

My name is Colleen and I’m a mommy to an amazing young boy, wife to an incredible and busy husband, a devoted foodie who loves everything about food and every type of cuisine, and an avid home cook of clean cooking, whole food recipes, made of good healthy foods. I’m on a mission to get people away from thinking things are diet meals or they are on healthy diets. Good healthy food and clean cooking is a lifestyle that allows the flexibility of eating what you would like in a moderate way. It allows the natural cues of your body to take over again and tell you when you are full. I will be including whole food recipes, paleo meals, clean eating vegetarian recipes, and lots more to provide a whole food guideline on getting nutrition and satisfaction into your family’s bellies!

Why Clean Cooking and Whole Food?

I’ve been on every fad diet, eaten tons of diet meals, been on every program, done every trend, even the so called healthy diets. Seriously, I’m not kidding. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on books, dvd’s, meetings, and nonsense. What have I realized? That at the end of the day, the types of food you eat matter much more than when or how much. If your eating is focused on good healthy foods that you are making at home or are as close to home made as possible, everything is within your reach. Nutrition is the basis of everything else going on in our bodies. The best most proper food to fuel our bodies is food that has no nutritional info listed on its side. Fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins, and things we can pronouce and understand what they are will make you feel fantastic. Whole food is the original weight loss food! The pounds literally start melting away like magic when you begin to eat whole food, start cooking whole food recipes at home, embrace good healthy foods, and clean cooking. In combination with water and healthy fitness it's almost like the scale just continues on the downtrend without much effort.

The Importance of Healthy Fitness

What you're eating is very important but I will also be talking about the importance of incorporating movement and healthy fitness habits into your life as well. I'm no expert, I'm on my own journey and am willing to share my experiences, my results, and my methods with you. I want to build a community of people striving to reach their lifestyle goals. Healthy fitness does not mean going to the gym 5-6 times a week. Healthy fitness is getting yourself moving in some way at least 30 minutes a day. I'm still overweight (my husband and I have lost a combined total of 60 lbs so far and are aiming to make it 200 lbs) and my joints give me issues. Trying to do the latest trending hardcore fitness dvd was leaving me unmotivated, tired, and dreading working out. I have since begun to walk at least 30 minutes a day. It's not extremely difficult, doesn't hurt my knees, and I actually look forward to it as my momma time of zen. I also try and go for another family walk with everyone later in the day so we all get a little activity in and family bonding time. Not only is this great for my waistline and weight loss goals but it's setting up my son to have healthy fitness habits for life. We fool ourselves into thinking healthy fitness means being a gym rat when it really just means caring about yourself and your body enough to work the muscles we were provided with at birth.

Types of Clean Cooking, Whole Food Recipes You Can Expect

I'm all about flexibility, creativity, and diversity in the kitchen. I'm going to be posting recipes from all over the place; paleo meals, clean eating vegetarian recipes, whole food recipes, healthy dessert ideas using good healthy foods. The focus will be on real ingredients that you prepare in your home. These recipes are not complicated. I'm a busy mom and wife and don't have time to spend hours in the kitchen outside of special occasions. However, I give myself some time each week to plan and about 30 minutes each day to cook. If you can do that you will be able to have nutritious good healthy food on the table everyday and well stocked in the fridge.

How Did I Fall In Love With Cooking Food?

Cooking food was always a constant in my life growing up. My home growing up was nowhere near normal. I was raised by two well-meaning parents who were gripped by years of inability to cope with emotions. The one constant was that my mother always made sure dinner was on the table and the pantry was well stocked. Cooking food became my most precious memories of my mom. Everything in our house was homemade (with at least two sticks of butter haha) because my family was raised on comfort American dishes. Everything about cooking food in my house was heavy cream, butter, and cheese. This, along with my abnormal household growing up, led me to have a very addictive relationship with food. I spent lots of years eating fast food, eating out, and binge eating like crazy. When I had my son everything changed. I remembered the skills of the basic act of cooking food for my family that my mother had instilled in me all those years ago. I also realized that if the weight was ever going to come off I couldn't depend on the manufacturer of some box of chemicals, good healthy food, clean cooking, and whole food recipes had to be the answer. It has also allowed my son to be a kid who knows what vegetables are and love them and that's pretty fantastic! I'm so excited for you to join me on the clean cooking adventure! Let's ditch the boxes and cans and whip up a taste of traditional Americana, from scratch, with our own two hands!
